Swaminarayan Akshardham is a Hindu temple and a spiritual-cultural campus located in Delhi, India. The temple is situated near the border with Noida. It is also known as Akshardham Temple or Akshardham Delhi. The complex showcases both traditional and modern Hindu culture, spirituality, and architecture that date back thousands of years. The temple was built by BAPS, under the inspiration of Yogiji Maharaj and the guidance of Pramukh Swami Maharaj. It is the second-largest BAPS Hindu temple in the world, after Akshardham, New Jersey in the United States. The temple was inaugurated on 6 November 2005 by Pramukh Swami Maharaj, in the presence of A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Manmohan Singh, L.K Advani, and B.L Joshi. The temple, which is located at the center of the complex, was built according to the Vastu Shastra and Pancharatra Shastra.

In 1982, Pramukh Swami Maharaj proposed building a temple on the Yamuna. 18 years later, in 2000, the government offered 90 acres of land for the project. Construction took five years.
History
In 1982, Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the successor of Yogiji Maharaj as the spiritual head of BAPS, initiated the construction of the temple in Delhi by the dream of his guru Yogiji Maharaj. Devotees were urged to look into the possibility of building the temple in Delhi, and a request for the plan was submitted to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The DDA suggested several locations, including Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and Faridabad. However, Pramukh Swami Maharaj remained resolute in following the wishes of his guru to build the temple on the Yamuna. After 18 years, in April 2000, the Delhi Development Authority offered 24 hectares (60 acres) of land, while the Uttar Pradesh Government offered 12 hectares (30 acres) for the project. Upon receiving the land, Pramukh Swami Maharaj performed a puja on the site for the success of the project. Construction commenced on the temple on 8 November 2000, and Akshardham was officially opened on 6 November 2005. The entire construction took almost five years to complete.
